Launched Major Public Policy Initiative at last year's Race...
During the Survivor Ceremony last year, we asked our state senators and representatives to allocate the first ever state funding of $2 million for the Best Chance Network to provide uninsured, low-income women with free breast and cervical cancer screenings. Our state legislators heard our request and allocated the first ever $2 million state allocation on July 1, 2008. This funding doubles the program’s budget, providing an additional 9,000 women with access to life-saving screening. In conjunction with this new funding, the Best Chance Network has lowered the eligibility age to 40 (down from 47), making the program consistent with national screening guidelines and expanding access to the women of South Carolina. To show their support, the following U.S. and state legislators spoke out for this funding.
U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis State Rep. David Thomas U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett State Rep. Fletcher Smith
State Senator Jim Ritchie State Senator Larry Martin Executive Director, Mary Lynn Donovan
